APPLY: FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Online Application

Application Standards:

Rank in the top half of your graduating class, OR
Graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, OR
Achieve a minimum composite score on the ACT of 22, or a minimum total score on the SAT of 1540

AND

Achieve a minimum math score of 22 on the ACT or 520 on the SAT*

AND

Achieve a minimum writing score of 18 on the ACT or 440 on the SAT, OR
Achieve a minimum writing subscore of 7 on the ACT or essay subscore of 7 on the SAT, OR
Achieve a minimum score of 3.5 on the Montana University System Writing Assessment, OR
Achieve a minimum score of 3 on the AP English Language or AP English Literature exam

AND

Complete the College Preparatory Requirements of your State. In Montana those requirements are:

Four years of English
Three years of Mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)
Three years of Social Studies
Two years of Laboratory Science (One year must be Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
Two years combined of Foreign Language, Visual and Performing Arts, Computer Sciences, or Vocation Education.

*Please note that most of Tech’s Bachelor Degrees are calculus based. If you will be majoring in a calculus-based degree program, you will need to achieve a 24 Math ACT or 560 Math SAT to be fully admitted into your major your first year.

  • Proof of two doses of Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) immunizations
  • Official ACT or SAT scores
  • Official Advanced Placement (AP) Scores (optional)
  • Official Transcripts for Dual Credit and Jump Start Classes (optional)
Advanced Placement (AP)

Montana Tech will generally accept Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations from College Board. Credit will be honored if you score at least 3 or above on the appropriate AP examination. Your official score sheet must be submitted to the Enrollment Services Office for credit to be granted. Scores can be submitted via the College Board website or by sending in a copy of the official score sheet. Contact the Enrollment Services Office at 406-496-4256 for current information.

Jump Start/Early Admission/Dual Credit

Montana Tech will consider Jump Start, Early Admission, and Dual Credit classes for transfer credit. If you have taken any of these types of classes, you can submit your official transcript from the administering college or university to Montana Tech’s Enrollment Services Office for review. Contact the Enrollment Services Office at 406-496-4256 for current information.
