The Mine Design, Operations & Closure Conference is back for its 34th year! Known for its strong educational component and networking opportunities, this conference is one you won't want to miss. The event will once again offer the latest in mining-related technologies and methods, delivered by a host of industry professionals. Make plans to attend!
If you are interested in submitting an abstract for consideration for the 2026 conference, please submit a one-page abstract, including a complete title, name of presenter(s), and the topic area (i.e., reclamation, mine operations, water treatment). In Memory
The 2026 Mine Design, Operations and Closure Conference will be dedicated to the memory of Dave Williams, BLM (retired). Dave was one of the “founding fathers” of this conference and continued to be an enormous supporter and participant in the event, even in retirement. Dave passed away unexpected in late June 2025 while mountain biking.

$160 Monday Field Trip (full day)
$445 Full General Session (Tuesday–Thursday)
$160 Daily General Session (Wednesday or Thursday)
$125 Daily General Session (Thursday)
$250 Virtual General Session
A full refund will be issued to any conference registrant who cancels up to one week prior to conference time. Any cancellation with less than one week’s notice will result in a 50% refund. Those who register but do not show up to the event will forfeit their entire registration fee.
Professional Development Hours (PDHs)
By attending the Mine Design, Operations and Closure Conference, you will be eligible for Professional Development Hours (PDHs). Each hour of class time equates to one PDH.

The Fairmont Hot Springs Resort features two indoor and two outdoor pools, each consisting of an oversized Olympic swimming pool and a mineral soaking pool. All are fed by a continuous supply of 155-degree natural hot spring water, cooled to comfortable temperatures. For an extra thrill, experience the 350-foot enclosed waterslide that empties into the outdoor pool. During summer, guests can enjoy a variety of beverages, including tropical drinks, at the outdoor pool bar.

Fairmont's Clubhouse features two Full Swing Multi-Sport Simulators with massive 220" screens. These immersive simulators offer 84 championship golf courses and a variety of skill competitions. The 18-hole, par 72 golf course spans 6,741 yards. Challenge yourself on the renowned "mile high, mile-long" 5th hole, a 649-yard par 5 that's one of Montana's longest. The 3rd hole boasts Montana's largest green—a three-tiered, 10,000 sq. ft. putting surface. Five scenic ponds, including a dramatic fountain on the finishing hole, enhance the 150-acre course.

The Whispering Willows Spa offers massage, bodywork, and spa services, all performed by certified massage therapists. You can also pamper yourself with hair and nail treatments. For your well-being, the Fitness Center is conveniently located next to the indoor pools. It's equipped with state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment. Beyond the gym, guests enjoy complimentary access to tennis courts, a playground, miniature golf, frisbee golf, and basketball courts.
