The Montana Tech Band will perform their spring concert on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm at the Auditorium on campus. The concert, projected to last 35 minutes, is free and open to the public.
Director Ben Morris predicts The Music from Stranger Things will be the main draw for the concert due to public familiarity and popularity. Arranged by Sean O’Loughlin this piece is a medley of the Stranger Things Main Title, Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) Master of Puppets, Should I Stay or Should I Go, and Running Up That Hill.
Other music featured in the concert will be:
Amparito Roca, a Spanish march written by Jaime Texidor and arranged by Aubrey Winter.
“This is a great barn burner of a march and will begin our concert,” Morris said.
The concert will also feature two pieces by American composer James Swearingen, Lead On, O King Eternal and Forever Shining. James Swearingen is a staple composer of many concert band works performed by bands in the last forty years.
Steel is the third piece in what composer Randall D Standridge is calling his “Machine Series.” This is a more modern band piece that focuses on rhythm and percussion.
“This piece acts as a nice contrast to the other works we are performing,” Morris said.
The concert will conclude with Pop and Rock Legends: Chicago. This is another medley featuring the music of the rock group Chicago. Songs that will be featured are Make Me Smile, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, Saturday In The Park, and 25 or 6 to 4.
The Montana Tech Band consists of more than 20 students and community members who rehearse every Wednesday when classes are in session, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the library auditorium. Students can receive a 1-hour credit for taking the class, but most folks are there simply because they love making music. Players choose whatever part fits their skill level or confidence. Some musicians haven’t picked up their instruments in decades; others come in just to enjoy making music again.
