Do you know an Alumnus who deserves recognition? Montana Tech is accepting nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Award, which will be awarded during Commencement Ceremonies in the spring.

Candidates for this award must have received an associates or higher degree from Montana Tech. All Honorary Alumni, as conferred by the Montana Tech Alumni Association, shall also be eligible.  In addition, candidates must have established a professional career of at least 20 years, of which five years have been in a definitely responsible capacity, and who has either contributed in an outstanding manner to the furtherance of his or her profession and/or has been an outstanding contributor to the College.

The nominator must first supply a brief letter of nomination summarizing why the nominee should be considered for the Distinguished Alumni Award. The nominator must be prepared to provide additional information as requested by the Selection Committee including but not limited to: a detailed description of the candidate (resume) and three letters of support.

Once all nomination letters have been received, the Award Selection Committee will review all nomination letters and will select nominees who will be given further consideration. 

The Montana Tech Distinguished Alumni Award is given to alumni who have made a mark professionally, having established a long-running career that includes leadership experience, significant career achievements, and dedication to furthering their profession and their university.

Montana Tech has a proud tradition of determined doers, and candidates should embody the characteristics of our university, embracing innovation, problem solving, resolve, and forward-thinking.

These awards are open to alumni who have earned a certificate or higher from Montana Tech. Individuals that have been awarded an honorary degree from Montana Tech are also eligible to be nominated.

All alumni, faculty, staff, and administration of Montana Tech can submit a nomination, as can family members of a nominee. The nominator must supply a brief letter summarizing why the nominee should be considered for the Distinguished Alumni Award. Elements to include in your nomination letter include:

  • Demographic information including degrees earned
  • Reasons why you feel the nominee should be selected for the award
  • Description of the nominee’s involvement with Montana Tech since graduation
  • Current or most recent employer
  • Examples of the nominee’s success and influence in their profession
  • Any applicable community involvement including service, volunteer work, and philanthropic support
  • Note publications, honors, awards, etc. the nominee holds
  • Provide the names of at least two individuals that will submit a letter of recommendation for the nominee (these names are in addition to the nominator)
  • The nominator should be prepared to provide additional information as requested by the Award Selection Committee

The deadline for nominations to be received is June 2nd, 2025, at 5 p.m. MST.

Once all nomination letters are received, the Award Selection Committee will review all nominations and contact selected awardees in June 2025.*

*Nominations submitted within the last two years are still in consideration for this year's awards.

Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented during Homecoming weekend at an event Friday, October 4th and recognized on the field during halftime of the football game on Saturday.
