Montana Technological University's History
Opening in 1900 as the Montana State School of Mines, Montana Technological University’s funding and land came from the Enabling Act of 1889. The School opened its doors in Main Hall with 21 students and offering a mining engineering and electrical engineering degree.
Today, as the state’s only Special Focus University, Montana Tech offers a world-class education, providing a transformative student learning experience where leaders are developed and science, technology, engineering, math, and healthcare are advanced.
