Dr. John W. Ray of Montana Tech’s Liberal Studies Department has had two peer-reviewed papers recently accepted for presentation at international conferences.

This spring Dr. Ray will be presenting a peer-reviewed paper entitled “Climate Change and Human Migration as a Threat to International Peace: A Realist Perspective” at the Twelfth International Conference on Climate Change: Impacts and Responses to be held at and sponsored by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy.

This summer Dr. Ray is also presenting a peer-reviewed paper entitled “On Hegel as the Most Adequate Social Contract Theorist” at the Fifteenth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences to be held at and sponsored by National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

The paper on the migratory impact of climate change argues that climate change is a major distinct causal facto for migration and immigration. This population disturbance will exacerbate the problems of international tension and conflicts.

The paper on Hegel as a social contract theorist examines the contribution to social contract theory made by the German philosopher Georg Hegel. This paper argues that while not generally recognized as a social contract theorist like Locke, Hobbes or Rousseau, Hegel has an important perspective on social contract theory as the product of consciousness.

Dr. Ray teaches classes in political science, ethics, philosophy and political philosophy at Montana Tech.
