ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE
The Associate of Science (AS) Degree is designed for students who are interested in transferring to a four-year degree program at Montana Tech or other university. Depending upon your interests, the Montana University System and Highlands College provide ways to you to help you reach your academic goal. The AS degree is a two-year (four semester) program.
BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTING TECHNOLOGY
Earn a one-year certificate of applied science (CAS) or two-year associate of applied science (AAS) degree in business and accounting fields. Coursework may be applied toward a 4-year degree in Business at the North Campus.
HEALTH PROGRAMS

Faculty Spotlight
John Jackam is in his third year an Instructor in the Sustainable Energy Technology area focused on Wind Energy. John graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1999 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He spent two years doing research and development for a fungicide manufacturer. In 2002 he moved to Butte to do research and development at Resodyn. While there he was assigned to a project funded by Kenosha Beef of Kenosha, Wisconsin. This project aimed to convert fats, oils and greases into biodiesel. Kenosha’s goal was to be able to use recycled oils, animal fats and greases, not edible oils. Within three years John and his colleagues had perfected the process on lab scale and built a 10 gallon per hour pilot refinery. At that time Kenosha Beef founded BioSource Fuels and hired John as one of its first two employees. The new company achieved significant success selling two 20 million gallon per year refineries and started work on a 60 million gallon per year facility. The market instability of 2008 led to the company’s bankruptcy in 2009. After that disappointment, John found “perhaps the most rewarding career I could have imagined” teaching Sustainable Energy Technology at the College of Technology. John has recently secured his third patent in the area of biodiesel fuel. “My experience in the chemical industry and the renewable fuels industry have given me a diverse background I can bring to the students, one where safety is paramount. I love every minute of it.”
