Gordon Flanders, DBA, MBA, BA
Dr. Gordon Flanders is an Associate Professor of Business Management and Marketing in the Business and Information Technology Department. He came to Montana Tech in 2009, but previously taught MBA and undergraduate level courses in marketing at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management; taught MBA level classes at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN and undergraduate courses in management and marketing at Carroll College in Helena, MT; the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI and Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. He also has extensive online teaching experience of non-traditional students with Capella University and the University of Minnesota’s College of Continuing Education.
Dr. Flanders received his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Phoenix and wrote his dissertation on “The Effect of Course Completion within Selected Majors on Persistence for Freshman College Students.” Gordon’s research interest is in college student retention, but specifically in the early engagement and success of freshman students during their first semester of college. He received his MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, and his BA in International Business and Economics from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN.
He teaches courses under the Marketing option for the department which include Principles of Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Strategic Marketing Management, Selling and Sales Management, Market Research. He also teaches International Business, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Micro and Macro Economics, Advanced Management Seminar and Critical Thinking, Decision Making and the Art of Leadership.
Before working in academia, he spent 20 years with 3M/Imation, where he earned the Circle of Technical Excellence and three Golden Step Awards for successful new product launches. At 3M he served as a Global Marketing Manager, Business Development Manager, Product Manager, New Product Development Manager, Technical Trainer and Technical Service Engineer.
Dr. Flanders serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Associated Students of Montana Tech; the Head hockey coach for the Montana Tech hockey club; and is a board member for the Montana Council on Economic Education. He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Marketing Management Association.
