Who We Are
Here at Montana Tech, we know students are at the heart of what we do. That's why we work to ensure they have equal access to our exceptional campus, activities, and programs, as is their civil right guaranteed by the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
Equal access is defined by the Office of Civil Rights as when "a person with a disability is afforded the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally integrated manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use. The person with a disability must be able to obtain the information as fully, equally and independently as a person without a disability."
To ensure access, we collaborate with campus and community partners to provide reasonable accommodations and adjustments to qualified students with disabilities. Such accommodations "level the playing field" by removing unecessary barriers. They are determined on a case-by-case basis by student's documentation and personal history, then tailored to each individual course and situation. Students with disabilities are held to the same standards as students without disabilities. Pregnant students and students with temporary injuries may also be eligible for services.

Parents & Guardians
- You are responsible for contacting Disability Services to request accommodations or notify us if an accommodation has not been implemented.
- You are responsible for submitting documentation from a qualified professional to receive accommodations.
- You are responsible for informing instructors of any conflicts related to your disability before or when they occur (i.e. arriving late, missing class, an assignment, and/or an exam) and for making up all missed work.
- You are prohibited from sharing classroom materials gained as a result of a note-taking accommodation (e.g. recording lectures, receiving instructor notes, etc.).
- You must follow all relevant policies if you are bringing an assistance animal into campus housing. For students with service animals, such animals must be trained.
- You have the right to equal access and participation in all campus programs, activities, housing, academics, dining, employment, and events.
- You have the right to request an accommodation that does not place an undue burden or fundamentally alter a course or program for consideration by Disability Services by engaging in an interactive process.
- You have the right to report a campus accessibility barrier for the institution to address.
- You have a right to file a grievance if you believe you have been discriminated against on the basis of your disability.
- You have a right to bring a trained service animal on campus.
- You have the right to privacy. All services are confidential unless you have given your written consent.

We provide designated ADA seating and additional handicapped parking spaces near the HPER for visitors with disabilities attending graduation. Stay updated on the commencement schedule and plan accordingly!
Parking is enforced Monday - Friday from 7am to 5pm during the Spring and Fall semesters. All students, staff, faculty, and visitors to campus must have a valid parking pass during those times.
Parking is not enforced during Summer and Winter breaks. Students, staff, facvulty, and visitors can park anywhere that isn't a timed visitor spot or in a loading zone with or without a pass.

Physical Access
Anyone coming to campus should know that Butte sits at a very high altitude. There is a risk of altitude sickness or shortness of breath until you have acclimated to the climate. Our campus is situated on several hills, so those with mobility issues should take necessary precautions.
Our campus is unique and historic. As Montana Tech first opened its doors in 1900, there are buildings on campus that are over 100 years old. Back then, buildings were not created with accessibility in mind. Knowing this, we do our best to accommodate students while preserving historic integrity. Three of our buildings (Main Hall, Engineering Hall, & Prospector Hall) are set to undergo much needed renovations within the next few years, but until then, there are no working elevators in those buildings.
Local Weather
Spring & fall weather can be unpredictable and temperatures may drop or rise anywhere from 10 - 30 degrees depending on the day.
Summers are very pleasant and don't usually exceed 89° Farenheit (31° Celsius), but there are many cloudless days where the sun may beat down on you, so remember to wear sunscreen, drink water, and find shade. Summer is also wildfire season, and the smoke can make breathing difficult, clog noses, and/or irritate eyes. Please visit the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to learn more about preparing for wildfires.
Winters are long, dry, and cold, with temperatures sometimes in the negatives. Neither campus nor Butte typically shut down for winter weather.
Debuting Fall 2024, faculty who are unable to teach for a day can choose from a variety of staff-curated workshops for students instead of cancelling class.
