COVID-19 Information

Montana Tech is Currently in Research Operations Level 0.5

Effective June 22, 2021 Montana Technological University is at Research Operation Level 0.5. The varying research levels provide guidance for actions and protocols by personnel in our labs — the same standard being established at research universities around the country. Transitions to different levels will be the decision of Chancellor Cook, in consultation with the Commissioner of Higher Education and the Governor of the State of Montana. Please contact the research office if you have specific questions about how your research or creative scholarship activities function under this guidance.

Under Level 0.5 conditions, all research and creative activities may resume at Montana Tech, subject to the following restrictions:

  1. University resumes normal research operations.
  2. Research faculty, staff, and students should continue to follow current university, MUS, and public health department directives to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission.
  3. Please follow Montana Tech COVID-19 Guidelines for Off-campus Field Research.
  4. IRB Operations: All human subjects research that involves face-to-face interaction within enclosed or indoor spaces are required, regardless of university or public health mandate status, to continue mask use and maintain social distancing. Subjects under the age of 5 are not required to wear masks, per Butte Silverbow Health Department directives. Subjects should continue to be screened for COVID-19 symptoms at the start of each encounter.

Note: State and local directives governing the social response to the COVID-19 pandemic are subject to change. Accordingly, be aware that Montana Tech may revert to Level 1 operations at any time.
