The Montana Tech Petroleum Department and the student chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers will be sponsoring the 24th Annual Spring Symposium, to be held on April 11–13, 2019.

This year, in conjunction with and in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Department's first graduates, an expanded program will be offered. The event's theme is 'Staying Connected.' This event is a great opportunity to return to campus, see firsthand the transformation that has taken place over the past decade, meet students and faculty, and reconnect with friends.

Thursday, April 11th, the Symposium will feature a technical program of industry speakers with topics of interest to students and oil and gas professionals. The day will conclude with a banquet and a 70th anniversary celebration at the Copper King Hotel. During the banquet, our guests of honor will be Jocko and Gaye Evans and we will announce that the Spring SPE Symposium will be renamed in his honor. You won’t want to miss this special event.

On Friday April 12th, a special program of panel discussions and a keynote presentation will take place in the HPER. The panels will be composed of senior oil and gas executives. This program will be of interest to students and oil and gas professionals, particularly mid-career professionals considering new opportunities within the industry. Panel topics will include 'Skills Required for Today's Changing Petroleum Industry,' 'Forming a Start-up Energy Company - What's Important?,' and 'Securing our Social License for Energy Development.' Friday's keynote will be delivered by Rick Muncrief, Chairman and CEO of WPX Energy. The day’s events on campus will conclude with a reception in the new Student Success Center. Tours of the Student Success Center will be available, along with a selection of tours of other new campus facilities.

Symposium speakers and panelists represent operators and service companies doing business in the United States, Canada, and internationally.

The Symposium and 70th celebration will conclude on Friday night, April 12th, with a trap shoot and social, unfortunately the golf tournament at the Old Works golf course Saturday has been canceled due to inclement weather and late course opening. All previous tickets will be refunded. On April 13th the Digger Auction will be held that evening in the HPER on campus.

The technical presentations, panel discussions, and social events of the annual Symposium provide an opportunity for petroleum industry professionals and students to learn and to make valuable connections with each other. Make plans to come to Butte to take part in this historic event. Watch this space for periodic updates on speakers and the event's schedule.
