Teaching and Research Interests:

I received my Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I also have a graduate degree in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Montana Tech, where I have taught for 35 years, I teach courses in political science, public policy and communications. I have published extensively in the areas of, parliamentary procedure, rhetorical theory and political theory and practice. One of my articles won the prestigious Phiffer Award for scholarship in parliamentary procedure. In addition to my teaching and scholarly activities, I am an active environmentalist. I have served extended terms on the boards of the Montana Environmental Information Center in Helena and the Clark Fork Coalition in Missoula. I have been involved in issues related to mining, toxic and hazardous waste and environmental policy. Recently, I was an invited participant to an international relations theory conference at Oxford University in England, an energy security conference in Beijing and Shanghai, China, a conference on food security in Dresden, Germany and a conference on peace issues in the Middle East in Cairo, Egypt. I also was recently invited to participate in an EPA national community relations conference in Seattle. I am a partner in Ray Communication Consultants.

I am a Louisiana native, having grown up in New Iberia, Louisiana and received my undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana.
