Tutoring and Mentoring
AmeriCorps members, community volunteers, college student volunteers, coordinators and peers provide tutoring and mentoring during the academic year.
Our Upward Bound AmeriCorps member attends Butte evening meetings assisting with homework, the curriculum and different Technical Outreach responsibilities. He/she also coordinates for our participants job shadows interested students. Other AmeriCorps members for different programs that also assist with our program are Jeff Barnes, AmeriCorps team leader, and Nicole Miller, a program alumnus, also assists with the program.
Community volunteers consist of college staff, financial planners, and other walks of life. These are concerned citizens willing to give of their time to assist youth in their future endeavors through homework assistance, providing a Job Shadow opportunity, or mentoring.
College student volunteers from Carroll College and Montana Tech. These students provide vital mentoring roles as well as tutoring assistance. Activities such as homework assistance, curriculum presentation assistance, Saturday enrichment activity participation, and summer field trips encourage students to strive toward their goal of college attainment.
Coordinators and peers are also available to provide assistance in personal or academic matters and are relied upon for consistency and days other than the evening meeting. Networking and peer relationships are focused on for building relationships in college such as cohort groups.
