ASPIRE
On October 18, 2005, Vice Chancellor Susan B. Patton was presented with the Friend of ASPIRE award, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the ASPIRE 29th annual conference. This award is rarely given, as the criteria states the Friend of ASPIRE is a college president or high level administrator who has demonstrated an outstanding support of federally funded TRIO Programs.

Vice Chancellor Patton was nominated for this prestigious accolade by Amy L. Verlanic, Director of Technical Outreach at Montana Tech. "After a number of years of networking with my colleagues in the region, I began to realize that not every campus had the amazing support that we do here at Montana Tech. Under Susan's leadership, we are supported to bring the resources of campus into the community to encourage more low income students to pursue their educational interests. Upward Bound and the other Technical Outreach programs are given the institutional support necessary to not just offer outreach programs but be exemplary outreach programs. Our success as a department is a direct result of the support that comes from Montana Tech's administrative commitment to our mission."
At the same conference, Montana Tech was awarded the plaque for most supportive institution in the region and the Upward Bound program was awarded the plaque for most supportive project. There are 115 projects and 71 institutions in the ASPIRE region, for Montana Tech to be designated with these honors is a testament to the dedication the college has to improve educational access for low income individuals in the area through quality programming.
