JUMP START/DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM

Welcome to Montana Tech’s Jump Start/Dual Credit Program!

Montana Tech initiated the Jump Start Program for high-achieving high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in early admission at Montana Tech to enroll in college level course work while still enrolled in high school. Now, Dual Credit college level courses are also taught AT PARTICIPATING HIGH SCHOOLS by Montana Tech-approved instructors, and count toward BOTH high school graduation requirements and also appears on the student's Montana Tech transcript. Students are eligible to take the classes at participating high schools or on Montana Tech's campus.

ELIGIBILITY

Due to the academic rigor of Jump Start courses, it is recommended that students applying for admission should be at least 16 years old, demonstrate readiness for college-level work by carrying an overall minimum GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale). The specific eligibility requirements vary from course to course. Students are required to have their school grant permission for the student to take the class and also have a parent/guardians signature.

COST

To encourage participation in the Jump Start program, Montana Tech will award partial fee waivers (limits may apply) for students participating in this program. Montana Tech offers a $90 per credit reduction in tuition for North Campus classes. The application for admission to Montana Tech will be delayed for participants until they enroll in college on a full-time basis. The Montana Tech Technical Outreach Office can provide you with the current cost information.

TRASNFERABILITY

The Jump Start courses are fully accredited, fulfill Montana Tech general education requirements, and are transferable to other colleges and universities. Most universities will accept credits from other institutions if a grade of C or better is earned. In a few cases, a B is required. Check the catalog of the college you plan to attend to determine its credit transfer policy.
