Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship
What is WUE?
WUE is the Western Undergraduate Exchange program coordinated by the Western Interstate commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Through WUE, students in western states may enroll in many two-year and four-year college programs at a reduced tuition level: 150 percent of the institutions regular resident tuition. In all cases, WUE tuition is considerably less than nonresident tuition.
Who gets the WUE?
WUE status is awarded on a competitive basis. Students who apply for scholarships at Montana Tech will be considered for WUE classification. Those who apply before March 1, will receive priority consideration. To receive the WUE classification a student must be seeking his or her first undergraduate degree and be a resident of one of the participating states.
How does the award appear on the student’s bill?
WUE will appear on the student’s bill as a residency classification. The tuition and fees that appear on the bill will be the reduced amount based on your WUE classification. Students will not deduct the WUE scholarship from the amount that appears on your bill.
How much is the WUE classification worth?
WUE students are billed based on a percentage of in-state tuition. As tuition fluxuates, so will the value of a WUE award. Currently, WUE classification is worth approximately $25,000 based on current tuition rates if the student attends for nine semesters.
How long does WUE classification last?
WUE classification lasts for a maximum of 9 semesters. The student must remain in good academic standing and not break full-time attendance. If either of these conditions are not met or upon the 10th semester of attendance, the student will be reclassified as an out of state resident and subsequent tuition will reflect that change.
