Undergraduate Research Program

Undergraduate Research ProgramWelcome to the home page of the Undergraduate Research Program (URP). This program was established to give motivated undergraduates a chance to participate in research and scholarly activity at Montana Tech to further their career and educational goals.

NOTICE: Cheryl duToit and the Undergraduate Research Program have moved to ELC 208.
Cheryl's new phone number is 496-4341.

For purposes of these awards, research and scholarly activity is broadly defined and may include investigations of a cultural or historical question, documentary or production arts, and laboratory or field research more typically associated with the science or engineering disciplines.

Why become involved with this program?

Research projects can bring reality and excitement to the learning process.  The following benefits are associated with completing an undergraduate research project at Montana Tech:

  1. Hands-on research experience;

  2. Valuable skills that will impress readers of employment resumes and graduate school applications, aid in developing a project for additional academic credit, and perhaps result in a published paper;

  3. The program provides a $1,000 stipend, payable in two $500 increments; and

  4. The program also may provide additional travel awards to present your research at various conferences including the National Undergraduate Research Conference, Sigma Xi Annual Conference, and the Montana Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting.

The URP requires the student to submit a proposal describing their research project.  These proposals are typically due in March and September of each year.  Complete eligibility, application and deadline information can be found at the "Guidelines and Application Forms" link below, or contact Cheryl duToit at 406-496-4341, ELC 208, for additional information.
