Gary Icopini - 2010 Distinguished Researcher Award
![]() Gary Icopini has been with Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology for 5 years and has quickly made an impact to the research programs of the Bureau. His work to better understand the problem of pharmaceutical contamination to ground water has established him as a nationally recognized hydrologist. This organic wastewater contamination is an emerging problem, driven by our increasing use of these non biodegradable compounds. In addition he has pursued research in stream depletion and mine related contamination. Gary has been very active as a researcher, with 27 publications and presentations to his credit, and over $500,000 in grant funding.
Garys a graduate of the University of Montana with MS degree from the University of Nevada and PhD degree in Geological Sciences from the Michigan State.
