Dr. Andrea Stierle — 2008 Distinguished Researcher Lifetime Award Dr. Andrea StierleDr. Andrea Stierle has been at Montana Tech for 17 years. During this time she has been a prolific researcher and grant writer. Her pioneering research into organisms living in the extreme environment of the Berkeley Pit has given a new identity to the famous Berkeley Pit monster. She passed her enthusiasm for exploratory research to countless students, both at Montana Tech and at area high schools.
Dr. Stierle received over $3,500,000 in support for her work from the National Institute of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This work has lead to 49 publications and chapter contributions to seven books.
Dr. Stierle is a graduate of California Western University and has a doctorate in Chemistry from Montana State University.
