Richard B. Berg —2005 Lifetime Distinguished ResearcherDr. Richard (Dick) Berg has been with Montana Tech for 39 years. He has a broad range of experience in the geology of industrial mineral deposits, Montana field geology and mineralogy. To his peers he is revered as one of the best forensic geologist producing many maps of Montana interpreting the 3 billion year old histories found in the region. His investigations into the histories of sapphire deposits along the Missouri river are legend and lead to the delightful Sapphire Symposium hosted by Montana Tech in 2004. He has advised graduate students both at Montana Tech and the University of Montana and also participated in our first international exchanges with Akita University in Japan. He is a prolific author with 70 publications and open file reports to his credit. He holds degrees from Beloit College in Wisconsin and the University of Montana.
