Dr. Kumar Ganesan —2003 Distinguished Researcher

Dr. Kumar Ganesan is a nationally recognized expert in air quality and a prolific writer with over 40 peer reviewed papers and 50 technical reports to his credit.  In more recent times he has turned his scientific interests to mercury contamination in the environment and has coauthored $1,600,000 of successful proposals in the past four years related to toxic impacts on the environment.  He has supervised the work of eight undergraduates and ten graduate students during this time. 

 

Although he continues to very active in research, he impacts Montana Tech in other ways by his endless energy and pursuit of new ideas.  He currently manages the masters program in Project Engineering and Management, our first fully WEB delivered degree program.  He is the state coordinator for the EPA EPSCoR program.  He leads the bio engineering initiative for the campus and has initiated research with the Big Sky Neuroscience and Spine in Butte and the International Heart Institute in Missoula.  He serves as the campus supervisor of the environmental design team and has been instrumental in keeping the streak alive.  His student recruiting efforts are famous – producing a continuous steam of excellent international students.  He holds degrees from the University of Madras in India and a PhD from Washington State University.
