Dr. Karen Porter —2002 Distinguished ResearcherKaren Porter has spent thirty years immersed in the geology of the Rocky Mountain region. Her passion is understanding the historical fluctuations of regional sea level changes while her vocation is directing the Montana geological mapping program. On campus she has lead class room discussions of the subsurface landscape, has worked with graduate student researchers and has mentored students in the undergraduate research program. She currently serves as the President of the Montana Tech Chapter of Sigma Xi. She holds degrees from Mount Holyoke College, The University of Michigan and the Colorado School of Mines.
