Courtney Young — 2009 Distinguished Researcher Award
 

Professor Courtney Young has been with Montana Tech for 16 years.  He started with a Post Doctorial appointment, became a faculty member in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and eventually became department head. He also is a founding faculty advisor for the Montana Tech Undergraduate Research Program and has served as chairman of the program for the last eight years.  While at Montana Tech he has developed a wide ranging research program in metallurgical engineering involving an array of federal and industrial sponsors.  He has been extremely active as a researcher by preparing 110 publications and presentations. He has actively engaged students in his work and has mentored 82 Undergraduates and 15 Masters students while at Montana Tech.

Courtney is a graduate of Montana Tech with MS degree from Virginia Tech and PhD degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Utah.
