Don Stierle —2004 Distinguished Researcher
 

Dr. Don Stierle has been at Montana Tech for 24 years.  During this time he has been instrumental in bringing his broad background in chemistry to the emerging field of naturally occurring bioactive compounds.  His adventures in the Berkeley Pit are nationally known and have appeared in a broad range of publications including Discover Magazine.  He has actively pursued funding for these projects and has received over $750,000 in support.  Finally, he is the true embodiment of the theory and practice of mentored undergraduate research.  His research engages an ongoing array of talented students that coauthor the publications of their efforts.  He is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University and the University of California at Riverside.
