Research and
scholarship are critical to the learning process - both for students and for faculty.
Montana Tech's Graduate School has very successful research programs that allow students
to explore new ideas and concepts while enhancing and broadening their educational
experience at Tech. However, learning by participation in research and scholarship is not exclusively for graduate students. In this annual report, we are pleased to feature a cross-section of undergraduate research and scholarship that extends beyond the classroom into fields as diverse as historic preservation and as innovative as cancer fighting drugs. The feature article in our annual report by Mike Stickney, Director of Earthquake Studies, gives us a fascinating look into life along the continental divide and insight into southwest Montana's seismology. |

A second report by
Metallurgical Engineering Department professors Worcester and Twidwell describes ongoing
work to decommission some of our excess nuclear capability. These reports all represent diverse examples of Montana Tech's commitment to
excellence in education by exposing students to problems and opportunities in the real
world of science and engineering. We hope that you find these articles not only
informative, but also useful. |
