Athletic Update
The Montana Tech Men's Basketball team has run its record to 10-11, after beating Rocky Mountain College, a team that was tied for first in the conference on the road. The Oredigger men returned to the confines of the HPER complex to take on Westminster College and Lewis and Clark State. The men led most of the way against a nationally ranked Westminster College team. However, they could not catch a break at the end of the game as Westminster heaved a half court shot at the buzzer to beat the men by 1 point. After losing a hard fought game to Westminster the men had face the #1 ranked scoring defense in N.A.I.A. on Saturday night. LC State jumped all over the Orediggers early and never looked back. The men ended up falling 80-57 to the #18 Warriors.
After losing to Rocky Mountain College on Jan. 21 the women's team had to prepare to take on Westminster College and the leading scorer in N.A.I.A. in Shalee Fackrell. With an array of different defenses the Lady Diggers got out to an early lead and led by as many as 20 in the second half on their way to their first Frontier Conference win 82-73. Things did not get any easier for the women as they took on the #6 ranked L.C. State Warriors Saturday night. L.C. jumped out to an early lead and did not miss a shot until they were up 20-7. The Warriors were up 43-26 at halftime and were shooting at a 62% clip. Tech also got beat up on the boards 40-26. The final score was 79-53.
The teams are headed to MSU-Northern on Friday and University of Great Falls on Saturday.
