Tech Holds Eighth Annual Scholarship Banquet
The
Montana Tech Foundation held its Eighth Annual Scholarship
on Nov. 28 at the Copper King Hotel. Coach Bob Green was the MC,
while Josh Vincent (Environmental Engineering 97) and Kelly Murphey
(Metallurgical Engineering 2007) were the guest speakers. In all
over 270 donors and scholarship recipients were in attendance.
Christmas Stroll
A congratulations is in order to Crystal Cornett and all
the departments
that participated in the First Annual Christmas Stroll. The event
was a huge success with every building hosting some treats. This
is a great event with a very bright future. Thanks again to Crystal.
Professor Emeritus Featured in Photo Exhibit
Professor
Emeritus Alex Volborth whom retired from teaching
Chemistry and Geochemistry several years ago has recently been featured
in numerous photo exhibits. His first photo exhibit was in St. Petersburg
Russia, at one of the worlds largest Geological Museums. The second
exhibit was was at the Russian Academy of Science where he was featured
as a Geological Photographer. He will now be going back to St. Petersburg
to set his work up at the Stroganov Palace of the Russian Museum
in St. Petersburg.
Some of his work will be in Montana very soon. In March of 2007,
the Gilliland photo gallery in Kalispell will be displaying some
of his work.
Montana Tech Hosting Speech and Debate Tournament
Montana Tech will be hosting the Butte Central Invitational
speech and debate tournament Dec. 15-16. There will be an estimated
550-600 students on campus for this competition.
With this tournament Butte Central will be looking for 150 volunteer
judges to judge categories ranging from plolicy debate, oral interpretation,
and humorous duo in drama. If you are interested in volunteering,

The invitational begins Friday, Dec. 15, at 3:30 p.m. and goes
until after 8 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 16, action picks up again at
8 a.m. until the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
Athletic Update
The Men's Basketball team has dropped its record to 3-7
after dropping games to Black Hills State University (73-69), South
Dakota Tech (62-55). The team has lost 5 straight non-exhibition
games and will return home tonight. The men will be returning to
the friendly confines of the HPER complex tonight to take on the
Dickinson State Blue Hawks at 8pm. Saturday the team will take on
Minot State at 7pm.
The Women's Basketball team has improved its record to 7-3 after
winning two games at the Peg Sarsfield Tournament and dropping two
games on the road to Whitman College and Whitworth College. The
women will look to maintain their perfect record at home tonight
when they take on Dickinson State for the second time in less than
a week. The last time it took overtime before the Diggers could
secure the victory.
The football team earned some post season awards this week. Six
Montana Tech players earned All-Conference First Team honors. Topping
the list is junior linebacker J.J. Perino who was also named the
Frontier Conference Defensive M.V.P. On the season J.J. had 17.5
sacks which ties the Tech record.
Junior defensive back Kyle McCall, senior offensive lineman Chad
Erwin, junior receiver Casey Kelly, junior running back Teague Egan
and sophomore kick returner Zach Soukup also took home first-team
honors.
Cole Salo, Shane Hensleigh, Corey Warner, and Kyle Sullivan were
named to the second team.
