CNA Program Receives Grants
The Stranahan ($22,440) and Niles ($10,000) Foundations have awarded the COT's Outreach Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program grants to provide tuition, fees, textbooks, supplies and uniforms for  Montana high school students that participate in the program.  During 2006 outreach classes are planned in Plains, Butte, Livingston, and Columbus.  COT's health Programs Coordinator Karan Kunz and the Foundation's Pat Naughton are to be congratulated for their efforts in obtaining these grants.

Congratulations Phil Patton
Phil Patton has been named the Interim Department Head of the Mining Engineering department effective since Dec. 1, 2005.

Two Professors in Guatemala City
John Brower and Phil Patton of the Mining Engineering Department traveled to Guatemala City in November where they presented a two-day seminar to university students, professors, and professionals.  At the seminar, Professor Patton discussed the basics of mining technology and methods and Professor Brower covered the economics of the mining industry in mining, and gold mining in particular.  The seminars were sponsored by the Glamis Gold Mining Company's branch in Guatemala, called "Exploradora Montana."

Professor John Morrison Honored
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory has honored Dr. John Morrison, a
current associate professor at Montana Tech, with the lifetime achievement award for his work in
various fields such as environmental, nuclear, industrial processing and national security. READ MORE.

Congratulations Ed Johnson
Ed Johnson has been nominated as one of 14 American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers(AACRAO) members to serve on the 2006-2007 AACRAO Nominations and Elections Committee.  The Nominations and Elections Committee selects those AACRAO members who will lead the organization into the future.  This nomination is a reflection of his standing amongst his peers in the profession.

Athletic Update
The Women's basketball team picked up another win on Dec. 3rd against Johnson and Whales 93-46.  They have had a couple of weeks off to prepare for a trip north to take on Kings University and Lethbridge College on Dec. 19th and 20th.  The next home game for the Lady Orediggers will be the opening of conference play against Great Falls on Jan. 6th at 6 p.m.

The Men's basketball team has run its record to 5-5 after beating Johnson and Whales and #13 Oklahoma City College.  The victory over Oklahoma City college took place at the MAC on Dec. 9.  The team now heads to North Dakota to take on Minot State and Dickenson State on Dec. 16-17.  The team looks to climb over .500 before beginning conference play on Jan. 6th at 8 p.m. at the HPER complex.
