Congratulations To Metallurgy Design Team
Congratulations are in order for the Montana Tech Metallurgical
and Materials Engineering Design Team. The team received third place
in the annual ASM Materials Education and Design Competition. The
team will receive $1,000, and $500 toward their travel to the MS&T
Conference in Detroit, Michigan.
Montana Tech Listed in Princeton Review and U.S. News and
World Report
Montana Tech was listed as the 8th best Baccalaureate College in
the West in the 2008 edition of “America’s Best Colleges”
by U.S.News & World Report. Tech was also listed as a "Best
Value" and "Best in the West" in the "Best 366

Metallurgy Students Win National Scholarships
Adam Hammes and Nick Gow have both received $6,000 scholarships
from the ASM Materials Education Foundation and the Scholarship
Selection Committee. The scholarships come from the George A. Roberts
endowment and are given to outstanding undergraduate students at
the junior or senior level who demonstrate exemplary academic and
personal achievements, interest and potential in metallurgy or materials
science and engineering as well as financial need. In addition to
receiving the scholarships, Adam and Nick have been invited to attend
the Materials Science and Technology Conference by the ASM Materials
Education Foundation, in Detroit.

at the annual fall T.G.I.F. This year's event will be held on Friday,
September 7 from 4pm - 6pm in the Mill Building.
Metals Fabrication Student Wins National Coca-Cola Scholarships
Cole
Anderson, a Metals Fabrication student at the College of Technology
won a $1000 Coca-Cola National Scholarship. The
scholarship is awarded based on the applicant's professional goals
and service to the community. This is the first time a student at
Montana Tech has pursued this national scholarship. For the full

Montana Tech Receives Two Major Gifts
Chesapeake Energy Corporation has contributed $150,000
to Montana Tech in support of Tech's campaign "Strengthening
Foundations...Ensuring the Future." This money has been designated
to establish the Chesapeake Scholars Program to be used in support
of students in the Petroleum Engineering Department. For the full

Northwestern
Energy has also donated $25,000 in support of the campaign. The
money has been given in support of the new Pre-Apprenticeship Lineman
Training Program. The money can be used to assist with any financial
needs of the Lineman Training Program. Northwestern also donated
a used line truck for use in the training program. For full release

Athletic Update
Renovations - The HPER renovation with the new
Kelvin Sampson court is completed. The gym will host its first contest
on September 5 when the Montana Tech volleyball team plays against
UM-Western.
Alumni Coliseum renovation is also completed. The new reserved
seats are installed and game ready, get yours today by calling Christie
at 496-4105.
Volleyball - The Montana Tech Volleyball season
is underway. It began with the DAC Challenge in Billings, Montana.
The team struggled through the tournament going 0-4. Friday the
team played Dickinson State and Jamestown College losing both games
3-1. The team lost to South Dakota Tech (3-1) and Black Hills State
(3-0) on Saturday. The Diggerss are on the road again this weekend
at the Concordia College Tournament in Irvine California.
Football - The Diggers got their season underway
in Ashland Oregon against Southern Oregon University last Saturday.
Tech was down going into halftime but put in a strong third quarter
performance to take a 26-10 lead. The fourth quarter was hectic
with a couple of onside kicks but the Diggers held on to get the
32-30 victory. The team is off this week but will have their home
opener September 8 against MSU- Northern. Get your reserved seats
