Dependent Students

If you are considered a dependent student by Federal Regulations and have been selected for a process called verification, you must complete the dependent verification worksheet below and either do the IRS Data Retrieval update or request a Tax Transcript directly from the IRS for both student and parent.

IRS Data Retrieval Tool - Submitting your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool allows you to transfer information directly from the IRS to your FAFSA.  Read these instructions on using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool through FAFSA. or watch this video to learn more about how to use this tool.



You may not be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool due to one of the following reasons.

  1. Tax return fililng status is "Married Filing Separately"
  2. Marital status changed since January 1, 2014
  3. Changes were made to tax questions on the FAFSA after the IRS Data Retrieval has taken place
  4. Filed an amended return
  5. Are required to file, but have been granted a filing extension by the IRS
  6. Filed a Puerto Rican or foreign tax return

If you are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you must submit a Tax Transcript from the IRS to our office.  Most requests are processed within 10 days.  Requesting a Tax Transcript is free of charge.   Read these instructions regarding how to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript.
