The Hunting Ground to be Shown at Montana Tech

The documentary, THE HUNTING GROUND, will be shown at Montana Tech on April 12th in the Library Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to attend this free event. THE HUNTING GROUND is a startling exposé of sexual assaults on U.S. campuses, institutional cover-ups and the brutal social toll on victims and their families. It weaves together verité footage and first-person testimonies, following survivors as they pursue their education while fighting for justice.

The Montana Tech Title IX and Rape Prevention Team members are sponsoring this documentary which has been shown on campuses and communities throughout the United States. Montana Tech Title IX Coordinator, Vanessa Van Dyk, notes “The Title IX team is invested in bringing awareness to our Montana Tech community of the resources available should someone be victimized by sexual misconduct. The Title IX team is just one of those resources.” Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in education.

The Montana Tech Rape Prevention Team has brought education and programming to Montana Tech throughout this academic year. Sponsoring THE HUNTING GROUND helps highlight the need to stand up against sexual violence, part of Montana Tech’s FRONTSTANDER campaign.

“We have worked diligently in getting the word out about what it means to be a FRONTSTANDER,” Dean of Students Paul Beatty comments. Bystander Trainings, Rape Prevention Education workshops, mandated online trainings for new students and all faculty and staff, speakers that focus on healthy relationships and the meaning of consent along with FRONTSTANDER t-shirts, pens, brochures, and water bottles have all been part of the 2015-16 academic year endeavors.
