Montana Tech Student Awarded SME Scholarship
Montana Tech Metallurgical and Materials Engineering undergraduate Stephen Broddy has been selected as a 2015-2016 recipient of the Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division Richard Klimpel Memorial Scholarship. The Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD) of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) offers up to six scholarships on an annual basis to students interested in pursuing careers in the area of mineral processing.
"I am honored to receive this scholarship,” noted Broddy. “This award will provide the funding to cover educational costs and allow me to focus on my studies." Broddy is from Sharon, ON Canada. He is a member of the Department student organization, Club Met, and works as a research lab assistant in the Department. He has taken on individual undergraduate research within the corrosion of low carbon steel and rare earth element flotation. He has also had two internships at Taseko Mines Ltd: Gibraltar Mine.
He will be honored at the Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division Luncheon on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, during the SME Annual Conference and Exhibit in Phoenix, AZ.
