Highlands College to Host First Ever Statewide Research Day for Two-Year Colleges
Highlands College of Montana Tech will host the First Annual Student Research Day for Montana’s Two-Year Colleges on Friday, April 19th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. The event will be held in the Commons at Highlands College. The public is welcome to attend. This will be the first such state-wide event for two-year colleges to be held in Montana.
The First Annual Student Research Day for Montana’s Two-Year Colleges is intended to be a celebration of student research, creative and scholarly activities. It is also an opportunity for students and faculty from two-year institutions across the state to interact with peers in their respective disciplines.
“The educational literature is clear,” said Dr. John M. Garic, Dean of Highlands College. “Having students involved with faculty in research, creative or scholarly activities has a positive impact on students by increasing their satisfaction, retention and completion. The faculty also benefit from research activities with students through increased satisfaction and professional development.”
Following the event, there will be a luncheon for the student-participants. The Keynote Speaker at the luncheon will be Tim Urbaniak, Instructor of Drafting and Design Technology at City College Montana State University Billings. Professor Urbaniak will speak about his 26 years of teaching experience and his interests in research, history, preservation and technological synthesis across disciplines to engage students to use different technologies to provide architectural and historic data to various civic and public entities.
Montana is currently in the process of rebranding two-year education across the state. Part of the rebranding process is intended to give two-year colleges a higher profile to the public at large. To that end, this First Annual Student Research Day for Montana’s Two-Year Colleges will be the premier academic two-year event in Montana.
