Foundation President/Vice Chancellor Announced
Montana Tech Chancellor Don Blackketter announced today the hiring of Joe McClafferty as President of the Montana Tech Foundation and Vice Chancellor for Development and University Relations. The search committee interviewed three candidates, McClafferty, Tenis Tennyson, and Earl Cunningham for the position.
McClafferty has served as Athletic Director at Montana Tech since 2006. He will transition into his new role officially becoming Vice Chancellor in January. McClafferty holds a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration from Montana Tech. He has held previous positions that included Vice President of Investments/Financial Advisor at Piper Jaffray, Producer/Host at Omega Sports TV, and Owner/Financial Advisor at Thatcher/McClafferty Agency.
Joe has a love for Montana Tech and has held many roles including student-athlete, staff member, parent, and alumnus. “I feel the growth of the Foundation and the development of the university are critical to the success of Montana Tech. The more the university and Foundation grow, the more funds we will have for faculty endowments, research, structural improvements, scholarships for students, and an overall healthy campus. I am excited to take what I have accomplished during my entire career and apply it to the Foundation and University Relations. I want to take Montana Tech from good to great.”
“I am excited for Joe to join our executive team at Montana Tech,” announced Chancellor Don Blackketter. “Joe will add enthusiasm and excitement to the Foundation and University Relations. He has done an excellent job with Athletics on campus and his knowledge of the campus will make for a smooth transition. Joe is a great addition to our team and I know he will help Montana Tech grow.”
In his new role, McClafferty will oversee the Montana Tech Foundation along with the offices of Alumni Affairs and Marketing & Public Relations. Joe added, “The momentum that Montana Tech is experiencing combined with the goals and strategic plan from the Chancellor, and the dedication of the faculty and staff makes me excited to begin this new adventure.”
The campus will begin to evaluate and prepare for the search for a new Athletic Director.
