Highlands College Holds Straw Poll Presidential Election

Highlands College of Montana Tech is going to hold a Straw Poll among the students of the major races of the 2012 Election. The Straw Poll is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 17th.

The major races which will be the focus of the Straw Poll are: the US Presidential election, Montana’s US Senate Election, Montana’s US House election and Montana’s election for Governor.

"Voting is a fundamental right in our country." said Dr. John Garic, Dean of Highlands College. "I believe it is essential that citizens choose to exercise their fundamental right and actually vote. Our hope with this straw poll is that it will raise awareness of our students of the value and importance of voting. In addition to all of that, this will be a fun and interesting event for our students."

The Straw Poll is intended to be an exercise in student civic engagement. Montana Tech is a member of the American Democracy Project, an initiative of more than 230 colleges and universities. The goal of the ADP "is to produce graduates who understand and are committed to engaging in meaningful actions as citizens in a democracy."
