Terry M. Spear, Ph.D
Dr. Spear joined the Montana Tech faculty in 1983. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Occupational Safety and Health and Industrial Hygiene. Before coming to Montana Tech, Dr. Spear worked as an industrial hygienist for Honeywell and Sperry Univac in Minnesota and for EG&G Inc. at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Dr. Spear has a B.A. Degree in Microbiology from the University of Montana, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Minnesota. He is active in industrial hygiene research pertaining to aerosol exposure and respiratory protection. In 2006, Dr. Spear assisted in obtaining a one million dollar research grant to study the impact of weatherization activities on potential dispersion of asbestos in homes containing vermiculite attic insulation. He has authored fifteen peer reviewed publications in industrial hygiene journals. Dr. Spear is a tenured, full professor and currently serves as the Head of the Safety, Health and Industrial Hygiene Department.
