John Amtmann

John is a professor in the Safety, Health and Industrial Hygiene Department.  He teaches courses in the Applied Health Science option of the Occupational Safety and Health degree program including: Anatomical Kinesiology, Electrocardiography, First Responder, Strength and Conditioning: Theory and Application, HFI Workshop.  He also is involved in teaching service courses related to overall fitness and fun, including: judo, jiu-jitsu, strength training for fitness, whitewater kayaking, yoga, rock climbing, and backpacking.  He graduated from Harper Junior College in Palatine, IL, in 1985 (A.S.), Illinois State University, Normal, IL, in 1988 (B.S. Health/Biology Education), and East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg, PA, 1990 (M.S. Cardiac Rehabilitation/ Exercise Science).  He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Montana with a major in educational leadership.  His dissertation, titled Case Study of a Service-Learning Partnership: Montana Tech and the Montana State Prison, studied the perceived and measured effects of a wellness program instituted at the Montana State Prison.

John is married to the lovely Kelly Amtmann, who is on the faculty for the Nursing program here at Montana Tech.  Together they have three beautiful children.
