AADE Student Chapter

Drilling engineering is one of the major disciplines of the petroleum industry, but no specific club at Montana Tech targeted the dissemination of drilling engineering knowledge until recently.  Tech currently has the third largest undergraduate program in the United States, and we felt it was important to pay proper attention to the drilling industry.

One large club on Tech’s campus, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, has had a long and illustrious life.  It is with the energy and excitement responsible for that club’s success that in 2004 Montana Tech formed a section of the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE).  Along with our host chapter of Denver AADE, Tech’s AADE offers a forum for the exchange of information specifically on drilling related topics.

Our chapter generally meets once a month where presentations are delivered by knowledgeable industry leaders in an informal environment.  Our goal is to use field trips, technical talks, and conferences to fill the voids in drilling engineering not taught in school and bridge the gap between education and the drilling industry.  During our first two years, we’ve traveled to conferences as far away as Houston , we’ve visited North America’s largest land rig, and we’ve hosted over a dozen drilling industry leaders from drilling projects in Alaska, Louisiana, and anywhere in between.   We’ve also started an annual golf tournament that pairs with Tech’s wonderful fall Career Fair.  We look forward to continually growing, to becoming a strong and important club on campus, and to maintaining a great relationship with not only Denver AADE but all nine AADE chapters nationwide and our six fellow student sections.  We are a vibrant, young club that enjoys participation from all petroleum engineering students and other students interested in the industry.

Feel free to join (it’s free) or at least attend a meeting!  Look for postings in the Petroleum Building!
