Want information on the latest (real or perceived) threat to groundwater or air quality? Worried about whether your neighbor's stash of trash and rusted drums is merely annoying or truly hazardous? Learn the answers to these and other questions in ENVE 535 - Hazardous Waste Management. The class will be a mix of on-line lectures, Web "surfing" for the latest information on HW-related topics, both essay-type and technically oriented homework, and a group project of the students' choice. HW topics in Montana, the U.S. and selected foreign countries will be explored.
Objectives
Goals of the course are to introduce students to the following areas of hazardous waste (HW):
- Regulations and their application to industry.
- Political and social issues
- Environmental impacts
Treatment technologies (both standard and leading edge)
