Frequently asked questions

Q:  Does working as a geophysicist require spending a great deal of time working in front of a computer?

A:  Yes, the reality of being a geophysicist in the modern era does mean spending most of your time in front of a computer.  There are a broad spectrum of systems and software being used in the industry.  This is especially true in the service portion of the oil industry.  The equipment is monitored for any needed maintenance including software and hardware upgrades.  It can mean becoming adept as a system administrator.
There are opportunities for world travel in places you might not otherwise see.  The lifestyle can be a very rewarding one.  It can also be challenging if you have a family.  The best way to find out more is to search out web sites of various companies in the industry and see what they offer.
