Program accreditation

The Geophysical Engineering program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Our program is one of only two such accredited Geophysical Engineering programs in the U.S. Our program was an outgrowth of the Physics Department and some of the faculty's interest in earthquake monitoring as well as other aspects of geophysics. The degree program was approved by the Board of Regents in 1963 and the first graduates from the program earned their degrees in 1966.

Other programs at Montana Tech that are accredited by ABET include Geological Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Mining Engineering, Petroleum and General Engineering. The initial accreditation took place in 1932 when the college was Montana School of Mines. The most recent accreditation was in 2004.

College accreditation

The Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities (NWCCU) accredits the programs in our college. The initial accreditation was in 1936 (Montana School of Mines) and the most recent accreditation was in 2000.
