OVERVIEW
The General Engineering department is the largest engineering department
at Montana Tech. Graduates are highly sought after from industry
and demand excellent starting salaries. Alumni currently hold positions
that range from design engineer to engineering manager to corporate
CEO. Graduates work in a wide range of industries including energy
production, manufacturing, aerospace, construction, robotics and
research.
The General Engineering program at Montana Tech stresses professionalism
and a solid fundamental engineering education. Students gain a broad
training in science, mathematics, computers, and engineering, and
are encouraged to select an area of specialization.
Other specialization can be pursued through proper advising. Students
are exposed to courses with laboratories that emphasize applied
engineering concepts and modern design methods. The degree program
is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC)
of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET),
which results in a Bachelors of Science degree in General Engineering.
Those who are interested in an advanced education can pursue the
M.S. in General Engineering. The student must select a specialization
option from Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Welding
Engineering. The department offers many funded research projects
under which students can pursue advanced research studies.
