What degree options are available?

Civil Engineering requires courses in surveying, structural engineering, and water treatment and includes courses taught in the environmental engineering, geological engineering, and mining engineering departments.

Mechanical Engineering involves the classic mechanical engineering topics of machine design, mechanics, and thermal-energy. There are other mechanical courses to choose from including HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), industrial plant design, structural mechanics, concurrent engineering and more.

Welding Engineering offers a sound education in welding processes, code and standards requirements, nondestructive examination and welding metallurgy.


Are there special features of these degrees?

The General Engineering degree is accredited by th Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

What is a typical graduating class?

With a typical graduating class of 30 students, graduates have outstanding job opportunities given the broad nature of this degree program. Graduates either go directly into industry as welding, civil, mechanical, or control systems engineers or go to graduate school. With only 75 Welding Engineering graduates in the US each year, this option offers exceptional job placement opportunities.


What are the placement rates for graduation?

Placement rates for the 2003 graduating class were as follows:

General Engineering:
100% with an average starting salary of $47,154. Reported salaries range from $36,000 to $62,000.

Civil Engineering:
100% with an average starting salary of $41,530. Reported salaries range from $31,650 to $50,100.

Mechanical Engineering:
100% with an average starting salary of $45,989. Reported salaries range from $30,000 to $58,000.

Welding Engineering:
100% with an average starting salary of $46,667. Reported salaries range from $38,000 to $52,000.


Are there scholarships available to General Engineering students?

There are scholarships and grants available to General Engineering students through the admissions office and the financial aid office.
