Q: Are there any planned social gatherings?
A: Yes. Dances, club activities, sporting events and outdoor recreation
are planned throughout the year.

Q: What is the average class size?
A: Class sizes vary. For the college as a whole, the average class
size for the freshmen year is 30 students with all other classes
averaging 20 students. The average class size for Environmental
Engineering classes is 20.

A: The student teacher ratio is 16:1

Q: Are there clubs in the Environmental Engineering Department?
A: Yes. The Environmental Engineers of Montana Tech (EEMT) is a
very active club that promotes environ-mental awareness. The club
sponsors picnics and other social gatherings for Environmental Engineering
students as well coordinating campus and city wide clean ups. The
club travels annually to a professional conference where students
have the opportunity to meet professionals in the environmental

Q: What makes the Environmental Engineering program at Montana
Tech different than programs at other schools?
A: The Environmental Engineering program at Montana Tech focuses
on resolving and preventing problems in air, water, toxic waste,
and land recla-mation. Other Environmental Engineering programs focus
on only one or two of the parameters. Montana Tech’s curriculum
allows students to graduate with a broad-based knowledge of environmental
problems.

Q: What do most students say about their environmental engineering
education once they’ve graduated?
A: Former students reported that they received an excellent education
that trained them well for the work expected of them. Most of our
former students advanced quickly in the work force.

Q: What can I do for fun in Butte?
A: Being situated in the Rocky Mountains, Butte provides easy access
to numerous outdoor activities. Additionally, students can be entertained
with movies, golf, dances, volunteer work, etc.

A: Excellent. Our latest survey (graduating class of 2007) showed
100% placement.

Q: How hard is it to get an internship?
A: Numerous internships are available for Environmental Engineering students. Several
internships are in Butte, allowing the student to attend school
while performing the internship. Other internships are located in
areas throughout the United States.

Q: What do I need for my dorm room?
A: You will need bedding, toiletries, linen, alarm clock, etc.
Beds, dressers, full-length mirrors, laundry, and kitchen facilities
are provided.

Q: Are people in Butte friendly?
A: Yes. The community is friendly and very supportive of Tech.

Q: Are the professors helpful and friendly?
A: Our professors are extremely helpful. They are very dedicated
to student success. Most professors can be found on campus daily.

Q: Is there a place I can go to get help with my homework?
A: The Tech Learning Center (TLC) is open for free tutoring from
8:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday. All students who need help are
encouraged to take advantage of this program.

Q: How far from campus is the closest WalMart, Kmart, or other
stores?
A: Several small drug stores are near campus as well as several
restaurants. The main shopping area in Butte is approximately five
miles from campus.

Q: Does the local ski hill offer college student discounts?
A: Yes. Montana Tech also offers ski and snowboard classes.

Q: Is housing affordable?
A: Yes. Housing is very affordable in Butte. In fact, that is one
of the contributing factors to why our students graduate with the
least amount of debt for Montana schools.

Q: What are the advantages of a small school?
A: One of the main advantages is that your professors actually
get to know you and you get to know them. They take an active interest
in your success at college and will do what they can to help you
succeed. Another advantage is that you are able to get to know the
students in your field. These friendships tend to last a lifetime.

Q: What activities are popular in Butte?
A: Activities popular in Butte are outdoor recreation, sporting
events, clubs, and volunteering.

Q: Are there any ways to easily meet students when I first arrive
there?
A: On a campus wide level, extended and enhanced orientation programs
help students get acquainted. Additionally the Resident Life Office plans activities that help students meet one another. The Environmental
Engineers of Montana Tech (EEMT) is very active in helping new students
adjust to life at Montana Tech.

A: Yes. You can get in touch with a current Environmental Engineering
student in several ways. You can email the Environmental Engineers
of Montana Tech (EEMT), which is the student club for the Environmental

Q: If I live in the dorm should I bring a refrigerator?
A: Refrigerators are rented at the dorm or you can purchase one.

Q: What is the food like in the cafeteria?
A: Most students report that the food is good with enough variety
to satisfy most tastes. The Meal Plans are very flexible.

Q: Do all freshmen live in the dorm?
A: Freshmen are required to live in the dorm unless they have a
blood relative with which they can live. A release must be signed
in order to stay with the blood relative.
