Admission to the Honors Program

Students applying for admission to the Montana Tech Honors Program should have an expressed interest in broadening and deepening their educational experience and provide clear evidence of academic talent and motivation. High School GPA and ACT or SAT scores will be used in selecting applicants. There are no minimum values used in the selection; however, target values are: high school GPA of 3.5, ACT composite score of 27, or SAT combined score of 1800. Highly motivated students, students with varied life experiences, non-traditional students, students with diverse backgrounds and from varied racial and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

 

Deadline: Applications to the Montana Tech Honors Program must be postmarked by March 21. You must apply separately for admission to Montana Tech.  You are responsible for your complete application arriving at the Montana Tech Honors Program postmarked by the deadline. Applications received after March 21 will be considered for admission on a space-available basis.

Note: For Fall 2008, students who have applied for the Presidential Leadership Scholarships will automatically be considered for the Montana Tech Honors Program, providing the Honors Program Application Form is submitted by March 21.

Montana Tech Application Procedures

All application materials, listed below, should be submitted together in a single envelope and mailed to the address below. Materials must be postmarked by March 21, 2008.

 

  1. The Montana Tech Honors Program application form.
  2. One letter of recommendation from a teacher speaking to your academic and personal qualities. The letter may be included in your application or mailed separately to the Montana Tech Honors Program.
  3. List all honors, activities, accomplishments and community service on a separate sheet.
  4. An essay of 2-3 pages (double spaced) on one of the following topics:
    Topic 1: Describe in detail one difference that you hope to make in the world.
    Topic 2: Identify and describe a characteristic of leadership that you find to be particularly interesting, troubling, controversial or otherwise worthy of further study and discuss why this characteristic strikes you this way.
    Topic 3: For the application year Fall 2008, students applying for the Presidental Leadership Scholarships may use the same essay.
  5. An unofficial transcript of your high school record through the junior year, including your cumulative GPA, rank in class and ACT or SAT results. Current Tech students and transfer students should also attach an unofficial transcript of your completed college work.  Transcripts should be included in your application pack or mailed to the Montana Tech Honors Program. The transcript does not need to be official, but it is subject to verification.

 

Submit the Montana Tech Application for Undergraduate Admission, available from http://www.mtech.edu.  Montana Tech Honors Program applications will be considered only from those who have applied for admission to Montana Tech.
