Explanation of Expenses

Tuition/Fees. The tuition and fees shown on this page reflect the full-time graduate student load of 9 credits each semester for two semesters and are paid on a semester basis. In addition to basic educational costs, tuition and fees support student activities and provide access to the Student Health Service, computer services and athletic events.

Room/board. The estimate is based on a double occupancy room and the most popular meal plan plus utilities and telephone. Montana Tech also offers double room housing options and married student housing. Off-campus housing is also available.

Direct costs. These costs are paid directly to Montana Tech in the form of tuition, fees, room and board. The total direct cost figures are typically noted when comparing the costs of education among various colleges and universities.

Books and supplies. These costs vary depending upon each course. Textbooks and other materials can be purchased at the Montana Tech Bookstore.

Fee Schedules for the summer and academic year are found in the current year College Catalog on our Website.  Please access the Table of Contents and choose Expenses. Both Resident and Non-Resident costs are included.

Financial Awards may be available to students through the master's program departments. Awards include Graduate Teaching Assistantships, Graduate Research Assistantships, and Tuition Waivers. Additional fees not paid by awards are the responsibility of the student and are due at registration.

Summer living expenses (mid-May through end of August): International students may choose to remain in the US during the 3 month summer period, which is not part of the regular academic year. Students who stay in the US should plan to spend at least another $1,500 for living expenses; those who enroll for summer semester courses will pay tuition and fees comparable to those for the academic year. Tuition waivers do not apply for summer courses.
