Biological Sciences

The goals of the Biological Sciences Department are to establish undergraduate student exchange programs and to expand current cooperative research programs and provide a unique undergraduate research exchange.

The Biological Sciences Department has focused its foreign exchange program on the Patagonian region of Argentina.  This focus is the result of Dr. Richard J. Douglass’ work with biologists in Patagonia beginning in 1989 and his initiation of formal exchange agreements with Universidad Nacional Del Comahue (UNCOMA) last year.

The Biological Sciences Department has prepared a formal undergraduate biology exchange program between Montana Tech and UNCOMA at the Bariloche campus.  The program established an undergraduate research exchange so the students can perform research comparing the ecology of Patagonia with that of Montana.  This will provide several excellent senior theses projects for both Montana Tech and UNCOMA students.  The Biological Sciences Department also wishes to expand and fund an ongoing red deer project in Argentina.  This project provides research opportunities for both students and faculty from both campuses.

Department Head:  Dr. Rick Douglass
