Montana Tech Foundation Latest News
July 2008
The city of Butte is very hectic today as we prepare for the Fourth of July celebration. This year is even wilder due to the inclusion of presidential hopeful Barack Obama in the mix. Senator Obama will be hosting a community picnic on our campus tomorrow. If you watch the national news this weekend, you are sure to see Butte and Montana Tech in their glory! If you cannot be here for the amazing festivities, I hope your Independence Day is one to remember.
As reported at our recent Board meeting, fundraising efforts for the year were very good. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2008, the Montana Tech Foundation processed $3.9 million in gifts. This compares to the $3.7 million from last fiscal year. Overall, we are pleased by the results and look forward to an even better 2009.
For the month of June 2008, the final tally for cash gifts was $263,125. This compares to $207,472 for the same period last year. Major gifts this month include gifts from Paul & Andrea Hladky for the football program and the JumboTron, donations by Jerry and Julie Schuyler for Petroleum salary supplements, the NRB and scholarships, a bequest from the Dorothy Shaw estate for the Alumni Center, a payment from Town Pump for their Project Dreams pledge, a donation from Tom & Linda Bandy for the NRB and the George Bandy Scholarship, and an enhancement to the Virginia Bready Danowski Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
We continue to see good results from the second phase of the Council of 600 requests. The challenge (matching) gift of $100,000 is proving to be effective in attracting new donors to the Natural Resources Building.
As we plan for the coming academic year, we are seeing strong numbers from our residence halls. Applications for the halls are at an all-time high. This is one strong indicator of a great freshman class.

I am pleased to inform you that the new Dean of the College of Technology started his career with the Montana University System this week. John Garic has taken the reins and will be responsible for the two-year education programs on our campus. We all wish John much success!
The interviews for the Director of Public Relations and Marketing are nearly conclusion. It is our intention to have the new person in place by the first of August.
