Capital Campaign Goals
Montana Tech, through the achievements of its faculty, students and alumni, is nationally and internationally recognized for providing a well-founded education in the fields of engineering, science and health. Montana Tech has equipped its students and alumni with the knowledge and skills to solve problems, advance knowledge and positively impact the industries and communities they serve.
Support for the institution comes from the State of Montana, student tuition and fees, private gifts, research grants and federal programs. Over the years, state support has eroded and federal grants and loans have failed to keep pace with inflation. Consequently, tuition has increased more than 125 percent over the past decade and the burden has been shifted to the student. Access to a quality education is a core value of Montana Tech. All students, regardless of their economic position, must not be excluded from accomplishing their dream.
Montana Tech is committed to maintaining academic excellence, providing rigorous classroom experience and innovative laboratory technologies, ensuring interdisciplinary opportunities and delivering a rich student life for the personal growth and development of community members. Montana Tech educates leaders for success in a diverse, global community.
Montana Tech has been an anchor in its community, state and region for over a century. When the doors opened in 1900 there were 39 students in two degree programs. The Montana Tech of the 21st century engages over 2200 students in over 30 degree programs at two campus locations. While the institution remains true to its “School of Mines” heritage, the college has evolved. Montana Tech has a strategic plan to guide it well into its second century and to achieve its vision of remaining a leader in undergraduate and graduate education and research in the Northwest. Montana Tech will build for the future while honoring its heritage by focusing on engineering, science, energy, health, information sciences and technology.
In a highly competitive educational and research environment with shrinking available resources, Montana Tech is challenged not only to to meet its current needs but also to provide resources for its future growth and diversification. The legacy of Montana Tech’s faculty and alumni is rich, varied and well known. However, even an impressive history does not guarantee a future. We must ensure that Montana Tech remains strong and viable into the 21st century and beyond.
Montana Tech recognizes the need for private support in four main areas:
-
Montana Tech must continue to offer opportunities to students through the establishment of scholarship endowments and educating capable graduates who will provide leadership and knowledge for the betterment of our state and nation. The goal for student support is $5,830,000.
-
Montana Tech must invest in excellence by establishing endowed professorships in the College of Letters, Sciences and Professional Studies and the School of Mines and Engineering. The goal for faculty support is $3,425,000.
-
Montana Tech must continue to advance knowledge by securing support for current and future programs that ensure that Montana Tech remains unique, competitive and relevant. The goal for program support is $3,765,000.
-
Montana Tech must build on its heritage but make a bold commitment to the future through capital support to construct new buildings, update classrooms and laboratories and equipment for those facilities. The goal for capital support is $7,230,000.
To meet these goals, Montana Tech has partnered with the Montana Tech Foundation to conduct a comprehensive capital campaign: Strengthening Foundations...Ensuring the Future. This campaign needs your support. Together, with your help and commitment, we will provide for the needs of Montana Tech, its students and faculty, and elevate their research and academic programs to the next level of excellence and success in the 21st century.
