Self Defense Course for Females

A self-defense course for females age 14 and above will be offered at Montana Tech on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd in the HPER complex.  This free seminar is a public service hosted by the MT Tech Judo Club, and will be organized by Tech Professor and Judo Club Coach John Amtmann.  We are very fortunate to have the help of Lt. Mark St. Pierre who is a 20-plus year veteran of the local police force, a martial arts expert and an authority on safety for women in Butte.  Additionally, firefighter and mixed-martial arts expert, Kahl Clark, as well as several other members of the Montana Tech Judo Club, will offer attendees the opportunity to learn and practice basic self-defense skills in a controlled but practical manner.  The seminar will begin with a discussion on Friday at 6:00 pm focusing on strategies and tactics to avoid becoming a victim, as well as dealing with agressors and predators.  With the help of judo club members, Saturday’s session will cover actual defensive techniques to fight off an attacker from 9:00 am – noon.  In order for us to properly prepare a quality experience for the students, pre-registration is required by emailing John Amtmann at jamtmann@mtech.edu .
